A Sunday Walk: 6 October 2013

Hello World!

All of you who’ve been following my blog over at Bastet and Sekhmet’s Library, know that I’ve been up to my ears helping prepare my husband’s “Personal”…that is an Exhibition of his work!  We’ll take a brief look at the inauguration that took place yesterday evening!

A Sunday Walk in Photographs: September 22, 2013

The last days of tourists for us here in Riva del Garda.  The German’s have gone home for the most part and the British have arrived!  Today we’re going to just have a peek at a group of young tourists learning how to wind surf…and a few people on the shore.

Hope you enjoy our Sunday Walk!

Sunday Walk: September 8, 2013

Good Morning World, are you ready for our Sunday walk?  We’re back in Riva del Garda to see the Seamen’s Monument:

To The Lost at Sea

To The Lost at Sea

To arrive there we’ll come down to the old pier from the Mermaid fountain through the Piazza just across from the Fortress, which we saw earlier this week:

Here are some pylons (well they’re actuall all along the old pier). I just thought I’d add this because I liked the gull!

Walking towards the old port along the pier where fishermen used to moor their boats, we find the monument to the lost at sea.  Of course we’re very far from the sea, but because of our lake many had gone off to war as sailors.

Along the old pier we now have some great cafès and restaurants…in case you just want to sit back and look at the lake.

Hope you enjoyed the walk.  Have a wonderful Sunday!

Sunday Walk: August 25 2013

The other day, I went to the library in Riva del Garda.  I’ve decided to take you there today.  I love libraries, and if anyone has ever lived in Italy, they can tell you, that in most regions, libraries are a poor thing.  Where there are Universities there are some great book collections, but usually only open to students or staff members, though because I’m a member of my regional library circuit, I was permitted to “study”, I actually wrote a short story there, at the library of the history faculty.

The train station that you see at the end of the slide show, no longer has that function.  Many years ago, some brilliant politicians with lovely foresight had the railway lines removed, so our little valley can only be reached by boat or roads, no train.  Recently there has been talk about rebuilding the system.  In the meantime the station now houses a restaurant and a bar.

Sunday Walk: Under the Portici

This was a great week for my husband and his friends.  In the town of Riva del Garda, the city council invited them to use the portici of the municipality building to do a collective exhibit of their work.

Each has his own technique…as you can see.  In order not to make this too long, I’ve just chosen a few as representative of the group.  From sculpture to oil paintings from impressionism to post modern, the group is many voiced!

I wrote a poem about the near tragic event the first day of the exhibit.  Riva is famous for its afternoon wind know as the “ora”, which has made the area a hot spot for surfers around Europe.  The Lago del Garda is also the largest lake, not only in Italy, but indeed in Europe.

It was three days of meeting together, exchanging ideas and of course showing the world different approaches to art…so I though we’d just take a glimpse too today.

Have a great Sunday!

Sunday Walk: 11 August 2013 – Riva del Garda

Today, we’ll walk around the lake front in the center of Riva del Garda…we will see:  The hydro-electric plant and some ferry boats…going then coming and a couple of views of Riva looking towards Limone del Garda and towards Riva from the electric plant!

It’s just a short walk, but full of beauty…who could have thought that a hydro-electric plant in the main part of town could be so pretty!   🙂

Sunday Walk: La Rocca – Riva del Garda (Italy)

Today, we’re going to take a closer look at the Rocca in Riva del Garda.  Once a fortress which protected the city from foreign invaders, like Venetians and Lombards, it’s now a lovely park and museum.

Oh…and this was where I saw that fantastic photo exhibition by Lois Beer I spoke to you about yesterday in my poem.  We spent most of Friday and Saturday there, a group of artists put up an exhibition upon request by the museum.

Here’s hubby’s contribution, a few of his smaller works loaned for the occasion, if you want to see a better idea of his work go here, I did a post on his work a few month’s back  😉
