I though as this week’s Photo Challenge is: objects…that I’d show you a dinner I made the other evening. Steamed Chinese meatballs coated rice with a vegetable stir-fry with thin egg noodles (taglierini)! I took the pictures with my Nokia phone so they are not big either in pixels or size! Oh and I ad-libbed with the meat balls I just made the meatballs using an italian recipe I have for that purpose and then threw together what veggies I had in the fridge…cabbace, kale, carrots, red bell peppers, onions…and then added some soy sauce.
The first stage is to let your rice sit in lightly salted cold water for two hours…then you prepare the meatballs, put some cabbage leaves on the bottom of your steamer.
Cut your vegetable to be stir-fried and as I decided to use taglierini (I got them ready to be quickly dipped into boiling water before adding to the stir-fried vegetables) which became vegetables with meat as I used the left-over meat after “coating” the meat balls in rice.
After you’ve let the rice sit for two hours, form your meat balls (make them smallish) and roll them in the drained rice, placing them onto the cabbage leaves with ample space between the balls. Put the steamer in over a pan with abundant water (I have a large cast iron pan and I put my steamer on my wire cake cooler inside the pan) and let them steam for 20 to 25 minutes. Meanwhile start cooking your stir-fry add the taglierini when the stir-fry is ready after dipping the noodles in boiling water for about 2 minutes or until they’re soft. Obviously the two dishes need to be ready at about the same time! Buon appetito!
Oh…I thought I’d show you this YouTube video about making taglierini!
(I just received after publication this wonderful Senryu from one of my favorite poets Ye Old Foole:

Hope you enjoyed!
