Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece – Matera, Italy

There are some places that have a haunting beauty…that says masterpiece.  One of these special places for me are the Sassi of Matera in Basilicata, Italy.  I’ve done a piece awhile back visiting a fantastic art exhibition in the Sassi which you can visit clicking here, that was also posted for the Weekly Photo Challenge under the prompt, Patterns.  It also has information about Matera.

Free Verse: Shooting Against the Sun

shooting against the sun

I know it’s not proper
It’s a grave error
for photos to be taken
against the bright sun!
But
I’m just an old rebel
never followed the rules
so why should I start now
when I’m nearly 62?

I love this great age
of digital cameras
of fancy great Programs
that clean up my mess!

It allows me to play
in the most vital way
with whate’er takes my fancy
without worrying too much!

So I was walking one day
along a long path
a bright promenade
and I saw the bright sun!

My eyes were amazed
at the light and the shadow
and I just took the photos
without thinking too much.

Now I may not here qualify
to be a great photographer
but think you this will stop me
I think not!

N.B.  this is actually a view of Lido di Arco or Port Arco…historically it was ceded to Arco so that it could have a port on the lake.  Many people consider that it should be Torbole…but that’s not why I labelled them that way…I was just distracted.  I know that wars have been fought for less…but let’s hope no one from Arco decides to shoot the photographer.

When we were venturing into the world of toys a week ago, at Bastet’s Pixelventures, someone, whom I can’t remember (I’ve tried to wade back into my memory…then on the comment archive…alas, oh sigh…) anyway a very brilliant person mentioned something about wanting to play with bubbles, but people would probably think it was inappropriate for a person of her age (I’m pretty sure this person was a lady).  So, I said…I think I’ll buy me some bubbles and have some fun.

One of my favorite toys as a child was “bubbles”!  We couldn’t go into a department store without me running to the toy department and buying yet another bottle of bubbles with the little plastic ring with a handle.  My mother finally got inventive, and just began to re-fill my bottles with dish-soap (Ivory, I think it was).  When the monster bubbles came out in the early 60s…ah Heaven touched the Earth!

So, dear brilliant person, this post is dedicated to you…please tell me who you are in the comments so I can link your blog!

Have a great day folks!

Pixelventures: Food

Food!

This morning, after buying bubbles and taking a bunch of photos…I was thinking…heaven’s I need some breakfast!

So, I went to another of my favorite caffès…Il Conte D’Arco…an older establishment, but with some lovely cornetti, and great people to talk to including the lovely lady who brought me my cappuccino and cornetto…which I immortalized for you here…just to give you some ideas!
